Welcome to Etowah UMC!

Etowah United Methodist is a friendly and welcoming hometown church. We warmly invite you, your family, friends, & neighbors to join us for Sunday morning worship – or any of the activities and ministries that flow from our church each week. You will find people eager to introduce themselves and make you feel at home. If you have questions when you visit, feel free to ask anyone you meet – or the staff members or ushers who can be found at the front entrance before & after each service.

Here are some answers to frequently asked “visitor” questions:

When is communion and how is it served?
We serve communion on the first Sunday of the month at our morning services. All people are welcome to take communion at the Lord’s table – no matter their history, denomination, or creed. Pre-Covid-19, ushers would invite people by row to come to the altar, receive a piece of bread (the body) and a cup of grape juice (the blood) from the ministers. After receiving, you return to your seat.  The altar is always open before and after each service for a time of prayer. During Covid-19, you will pick up a pre-packaged individual cup that includes grape juice and a wafer.

Do you have nursery for my children?
Due to Covid-19, our Nursery is currently unavailable for infants and toddlers. We hope to eventually re-open our Nursery in the future.  The nursery is located in the childcare wing can be accessed by using hallway opposite the fellowship hall doors.  We practice a “Safe Sanctuaries” policy which means that all infant, children, and youth workers have undergone background checks and specific training.

Can my children stay with me while I worship?
Yes! Your infants and children are very welcome in our sanctuary. We love to see families worshipping together.

How long are your services?
Each service is about 1 hour.

What are your services like?
Our 9:00am service is a contemporary service for those who connect to God through praise and worship, and the 11:00am service is a traditional Methodist service for those who connect to God through hymns and liturgy. We have a Praise Team band at our 9:00am service with guitars, drums, piano and and leaders who love to lead in worship to God; and, we utilize both our piano and organ and hear great music from the EUMC Choir at 11:00am! The sermon in all services is identical and offers bible-based, relevant teaching. Between all services, you are invited to our narthex area to talk more with people you’ve met, grab a cup of coffee, and attend Sunday School!

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or give anything?
While we hope you will feel welcomed at EUMC, rest assured that you won’t be put on the spot, singled-out, or embarrassed. Though we do receive an offering from our church family, we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give. We do like to collect some basic information from people on our visitor pads, but if you’d prefer not to, no worries.

What do people wear?
We invite you to feel comfortable when you come to worship God at EUMC! While most people wear “dress” or “work” clothes, you will see people comfortable in all types of clothing. In short, wear what works for you! You are welcome with us!
