THE EUMC ANNUAL HOLIDAY FAIR
ANNUALLY: FIRST SATURDAY OF NOVEMBER:
For decades, the Piecemakers (Circle) have spearheaded the second largest fundraiser of the church's calendar year, the annual HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR. Proceeds from the Fair benefit local, state, and national missions and causes.
PREPARING FOR THE HOLIDAY FAIR EACH YEAR:
Almost as soon as one Fair is over, work on crafts begins on the next one to be held a year later. First, an accounting of the craft items sold is made in order to determine what needs to be made all over again. Then new sewing and craft ideas are discussed at the first monthly Piecemakers' meeting of the new year, followed by updates at monthly meetings as the year progresses. All handcrafts are usually made by the Piecemakers at home since many are projects that can be done in craft rooms or the dining room table or in front of the TV. Some projects are group efforts. All are year-long endeavors leading up to the November Fair.
The Fair itself includes an overflowing Bake Shop to which any and all church members can contribute. Usually, the month of October is a "baking month" for many in the church. A soup lunch is also served at the Fair for a reasonable price. Soup is homemade by Charity Circle and others in the church who love the smells from a warm kitchen when they walk through the church doors into the Fair.
Many who contribute handiwork to the Fair consider their donations just that, donations. It is possible, however, to be reimbursed for materials used upon presentation of receipts.
PUTTING TALENTS TO WORK FOR A GOOD CAUSE
The money raised at the Fair all goes to missions and charities, local, national and international.
HELPING WITH THIS MINISTRY
If you are crafty/artistic/talented, please make something to donate to the Fair. Although there are a variety of sewn and knit items at the Fair, there are lots more items that can be donated. For instance, greeting cards, woodcrafts, and Christmas ornaments are usually very popular.
Bake something yummy for the Bake Sale. Sign-up sheets are available in late September or October.
Some years a room full of sewing and crafting supplies, especially quilters' "fat quarters," will be available at giveaway prices. There are also knitting needles, buttons and a myriad of accessories. This is because the Piecemakers accept such items when church members clean out their craft rooms; some items might also go to the church's annual Flea Market.
Lend a hand if you can. Help will be needed on Fair day, the first Sat. of November, and to put items on display on the 2 set-up days beforehand.
Help with advertising by sharing info about the Fair with local friends and relatives. Flyers are made available in late September.
